The Default Mode Network and Sound Healing

CLINICAL NEUROLOGICAL RE-FUNCTIONING WITH BINAURAL BEATS

The Default Mode network is a brainwave state which was accidentally discovered in 2001 by Marcus E. Raichle at Washington University. The DMN is slower than Delta at around 0.15-0.075 hertz, that’s one cycle every 6-13 seconds. It is responsible for 95% of the brains functioning and is proven to be deficient in persons with PTSD, Autism, ADD, ADHD, Depression, Alzheimer’s, OCD and Epilepsy to name just a few. This is incredible and powerful information, however, the standard practise of the medical profession is to use pharmaceuticals and varying forms of surgery to treat the effects of some of these conditions. With the power of sound, we are able to use binaural beats through headphones to entrain a patient's brainwaves to the Default Mode Network and thereby amplify them to a more functional level. This is a learned neurological response, and one can think of it like taking your brain to the gym to work on its biceps, except we are working on the DMN creating new and improved neurological pathways and hemisphere synchronisation for a higher functioning brain.
