Apples and Oranges. Sound and Light.

Although the idea of listening to the sounds of the elements, chakras and other light converted vibration is exciting and thought provoking, I have come to understand at much greater depth that light and sound are two different beasts and it is not possible to simply convert a wavelength from ‘light’ into ‘sound’. Yes these are both forms of vibration but they are different forms of vibration and have different traits and characteristics. It is only after learning how sound is propagated from light and visa versa that I realised my own mistake in believing that light and sound could be mathematically manipulated from one into the other.

In physical reality, the sound that propagates from light is the modulating amplitude of the light, that is, it’s change in intensity (loudness/brightness). This movement in intensity is the sound of light. If we are able to detect this we could move this sound, by octaves, into the audible range. This is the ideal and most accurate method for producing the ‘sound of light’. However, this is not what is typically done and it seems that many people have their own way of getting their final result.

In my own conversion of atomic spectral data (The Sound of the Elements) I converted each Angstrom wavelength to meters then divided this with the speed of light and got a huge number which I then dropped approximately 45 octaves. I also converted the linear ‘intensity’ of the angstrom into logarithmic ‘decibels’. It is great fun to make these calculations and listen to the final product of hundreds of converted ‘light’ vibrations but this is not a representation of the true physical propagation of sound from light, for that I would need much more detailed and specific spectral information which I’m not sure is even possible at the moment.

I understand the ramifications this has on many in the sound healing field so please email me if you have any questions about my claims. I’m more than happy to be proven wrong and with your help I would enjoy furthering my understanding of sound, light and healing.

Special thanks to John Stuart Reid for your help.
